Upward Basketball

Upward Basketball is a league for children in 1st through 6th grade, run by Southmont and open to the whole community. A child does not need to have played before, and does not need to be part of the church.

Every child is placed on a team, is coached properly during the week, and plays in the Saturday game – not just the ones who are already good at it. Teams are put together so that they are evenly matched, and the hour on Saturday is meant to be the good part of a child’s week rather than the tense part. Sportsmanship is coached as deliberately as the shooting is.

Upward Sports runs leagues like this in churches across the country, and Southmont is a licensed Upward church. Parents are welcome to stay and watch. The league only runs because church members volunteer to coach and to referee, so if that sounds like you, let the church office know.
