About Jerald
I have served five churches as a minister of music during my 47 years of ministry experience, more than 16 of which have been at Southmont. I earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Baylor University, a Master of Church Music Education degree with a concentration in vocal performance from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Master of Religion degree from the B. H. Carroll Theological Institute.
In addition to church ministry, I served for 20 years as a chaplain in the Texas State Guard, retiring with the rank of lieutenant colonel. I also served nine years as a full-time hospice chaplain and recently retired from VNA Hospice. Currently, I continue to serve part-time as a chaplain with the Baylor Scott & White Health System.
At Southmont, I lead the 9:30 a.m. traditional worship service and oversee the graded choir program. I direct the Adult Choir, Youth Choir, Older Children’s Choir, Handbell Choir, and Orchestra. Together, these groups present five major musical productions each year.
I met my wife, Andrea, while we were students at Baylor University. We have been married since July 1975 and enjoy staying physically active by walking together and spending time at a local gym. We have three married adult children, two daughters in Carrollton and a son in Fort Worth, and four grandchildren who bring tremendous joy and blessing to our lives.
